Hi there folks,
I have a request to those who live in Japan. I am thinking of importing a particular van from Japan to EU.
Would somebody recommend me some/several car auctions where I can bid? Looking for something tested and reliable.

Thanks for the feedback!

You know the steering wheel is on the wrong side?

In Hawaii refurbished right hand drive mini trucks & Van's imported from Japan are relatively cheap & popular. The Trucks have small gas sipping engines used alot on farms here.

At car shows one whole line in parking lot devoted to right hand drive vehicles made only for Japanese market including luxury Toyota sedans with lace over seats. Have fun driving in & parking wearing white gloves. I love it the vans get really creative woven wicker inside roof lining. Reed curtains. Different vans have surfboard racks.

On our small side street with limited # of houses on it there are two mini Trucks.

Just making sure you would not end up with a car you cannot drive comfortably!
Simple solution: only take it on holiday to the UK. Maybe take a boat trip to India!

I actually saw lots of them in LA, kei trucks and vans, they are probably great tool for small businesses, wrong side is a small price to pay

Ineligible for CA registry. If they had license plates, they came off something else.

What type of van are you looking for? Are there many Japanese brands like Honda & Toyota in Bulgaria? Top speed on Kai trucks & Van's is 65-75 mph so in USA not legal most states on freeways. Laws differ depending what states. Hawaii Islands most lenient as our freeway not like Mainland top speed limit most areas 55mph. I would imagine Bugaria wouldn't be a problem. Never been but hear that it is beautiful country.

My friend who lives on our street drives his Kai truck over the Pali mountain pass to other side of island. These vehicles are over 25 years old, dont have airbags or much else safety equipment. Dealer who brings them in makes sure good mechanical & body condition. They just need seatbelts to be legal all roads. Some are 4wheel drive that's why farmers are buying them dirt & gravel roads, cheap 7k-12k range, good milage you see more of the Kai trucks & Van's on the road very popular here. Dealer has no problem selling them esp how expensive most new vehicles are these days.

Even when it were possible to import a vehicle into EU, it doesn't mean you're allowed to drive with it. As an end-user you normally won't be aware of it, because the importer certifies the conformity of the delivered car to the tested one. Now you will have your car to be tested before you can actually drive with it.

I know that and I have no prob with it. Besides, I dont need to go to the Dutch RDW.

Hey! Can somebody provide the requested links or not?
So far I read either jokes (no prob with that , too) or comments which have nothing to do wiht the question...MarcelNL is an exception.

I'm not really familiar with how the EU operates in this sphere, but here in Texas I know there are companies which exist specifically to act as intermediaries with the Japanese auto auctions. There are a few in my city and they have a couple different processes. One, they list inventory which they have purchased and are in the process of importing and you can go to the shop and negotiate purchase/importation/transfer. Two, you can basically ask them to look for a vehicle with certain parameters and they can bid for you as an agent. If you can find a company like that in your country I would probably recommend going that route. I have a few friends who imported cars this way and if you work with someone who knows what they're doing it can be a pretty painless procedure. There was one time where I was really considering importing a Toyota Century but my wallet knocked some sense into me lol.

A lot of the red tape can depend on the age of the vehicle. In the USA if it was over 25 years old it had classic car status and all bets were off. Fill yer boots. Not sure if the same applies in Europe.

A lot of EU buyers were getting cheap Porsche 993's from Japan. Usually low mileage and in great condition. You take a look on Rennlist and see the recommended auction sites.

Just for clarification: Are you looking for a site where you can buy a car and have it exported or just where you can buy cars? In the later case there’s many formalities for registration etc. so I think it’s necessary to have a local intermediary and as far as I know, the car export business is based on intermediaries. If that’s a route you’re interested in, a friend of mine has exported some cars to America so I could ask him if he knows people who are experienced with dealing with European countries or perhaps if he’s got some experience himself.

FYI - I got in touch with an online "rep" of certifiied&checked car dealers in Japan, with my inquiry. It was sent to the netweork of dealers, so the next day they started to contact me directly. Provided offers. Unfortunately, all offers are for right handed veihles (from the brand and model I am looking for), simply bc it is manufactured in Japan for the local market. So, I just gave up to source it from Japan.

Thanks for the comments in the thread.

that in combination with this;

somehow seems to require a bit of an explanation?

There are loads of cars made only for RHD, and the chance that you find LHD cars in Japan is slim, so I'm puzzled about what it is you are looking for?

There might be RHD countries that somehow import similar cars from Japan, but without understanding what you;re looking for nobody will be able to help you.

That was never going to be on the cards. You're looking for a LHD in RHD country that manufactures for the local market. Why would a Japanese buyer order a LHD? Makes no sense. As Marcel says find out if the brand sells in LHD markets and import from one of those countries.

Yeah... @MarcelNL - The explanation is that at the begining of my search for the Make/Model, I thought it would be acceptable to drive a RHD car in my country. From legal point of view it is still OK. But in the next days (after posting here) I digged into the practical side of such "adventure" - i read forums, i talked to ppl driving RHD vehicles here and I came to the conclusion it would be risky - risky for me, but most important - risky for my family. So, when I contacted the car dealers I inquired LHD van. You know the rest of the sotry.

makes perfect sense, and in fact that is why I asked te initial question !

There may be countries where the vehicle type you are looking for is driving around as LHD but the chances AND pickings will be slim!

Can't understand the air of secrecy. It's not like this is a car forum or anything. Spill the beans and tell us what you are looking to buy.
