I had a shipping problem with a JCK Nature Blue Cloud series Nashiji Kiritsuke 140mm Petty knife. It was securely packaged by JCK as usual in bubble wrap. When I opened it up somewhere in transit it had gotten wet. What happened was the water had made it through the bubble wrap and the box was wet. This was not JCK's fault nor is the knife damaged much just a little rust on the handle. The blade was protected by a plastic cover. I am going to get a rust eraser, I was just going to order the one JCK has but I am curious is there a go to brand? Is there something better, I do have a Dremel tool.

Never had good results using rust eraser. Too aggressive. If its just superficial I would use silicon carbide 1k-1500 grit as a paste.

How deep is it? Pics would help.

If it is just very light, making a little paste with Barkeeper's Friend often is enough. I'd oil it to stop it from spreading until you decide on the approach. I always like to start with the least aggressive method I think might work.

Here are photos there is some tarnish on the blade but a couple of swipes on my 12K grit will take of of that. I am looking at Flitz Metal Polish.

I think regretfully ask for a refund or replacement on this one.

Surface rust can be dealt with, but it maybe that there is water that got into the tang in the bottom pic..

There are no pits, It appears most the "rust" was from the paper box it was in. I used the 8,000 and the 12,000 grit Sharpton to clean it up. In the process I put a dry shaving edge on it. I don't have a polishing wheel setup so the flat whetstone brings out the hammer marks in the blade. I have to say I have a number of "petty" knives both Japanese and German. This Nashiji Kiritsuke Petty has the best balance, and blade stiffness of any of the the Petty's I have.

People love em or hate em. I'm the former.

I've bought them from specialty stores and I've bought them from Amazon. Can't tell any difference. One Med and one Fine. Use the fine the most.

If rust is very light I've been known to try Flitz or Semichrome first with the eraser as a fall back position.
