Friend of mine asked me about this handle. He would like to know if he can get something similar made. Does anyone know who might have made this handle? Also recommend custom makers. I know Jobone (who posts on this forum and who I have bought stuff from sugi cutlery) and let’s handle this, any other custom makers who could make something similar? Thanks guys

I do make wa handle and there are obviously other members here who do : @tostadas, @cotedupy, @Tekkz, @Uncle Danny, and plenty more.

You can have a look at this thread of those who publish their creations.

For this kind of wood, however, not everyone works with it. But it is certain that you will be able to find someone here who will be able to create the handle you want 💁‍♂️

The trickiest part to make a matching handle will be to get the blank that looks like what you want. It looks like spalted maple burl that's double dyed in black and red. Burl is pretty unpredictable in how any one particular piece will take up dye. So rather than get a piece of wood and plan to dye it in that way, usually, you have a bunch of blanks, dye them all with the same method, and then from there, see what results come out. In addition, that particular piece was cast and filled with epoxy for that blue color. I'd recommend looking for someone that does hybrid casting (ie. wood and epoxy) and get one with similar color scheme. Then after that, just find someone to craft the handle itself.

I've seen josh of letshandlethis do lots of those before. He might do his own casting, so worth reaching out to him as a start.

What the f*** is ‘vulcano stabilized wood’?!

I work quite a lot with coloured epoxy fills like that. Less so with volcanoes…

Making a handle like that is more about sourcing the materials. It looks like a double dyed spalted burl with a blue epoxy fill.

Most blocks like that are not reproducible, but are singular works of art.
