Went Down a Rabbit Hole

My girl wants me to get rid of my old knife block. It's a cheapy that I picked up at Target/Walmart/Somewhere unmemorable. I've always wanted a "GOOD" set of knives, so I figured this would give me the opportunity to do so. I nearly purchased the Wustof Gourmet series ($345) on Amazon Prime Day, but backed out at the last minute when I found out how bad they are. That sent me down a rabbit hole of trying to find a good set... now I'm here asking for assistance.

FWIW, I don't think the Gourmet line is bad. The prices are up so not he value they used to be but they're a decent enough all 'rounder and you don't get the absurdly heavy handles of the pricier models.

Most here will caution against sets and many of us will also push you toward a sharpening solution early on.
