Kato is past 80 now right? This would be a viable option for him to do another five years or so. As long as he can do the initial forge welding and maybe the chiseling he’d be good. He should totally team up with yamawaki and baba but that will probably remain wishful thinking.

Doi keijiro did the initial weld by hand and when he couldn’t lift the hammer anymore it was game over. Others do it entirely on the belt hammer but that’s hard to get right.

Mazaki does everything himself, and anything different he charges an arm and a leg for ie his damascus is around $1,800 and it looks pre-laminated to me, also only a crap handle

I never had a Myojin, but my 2 Mazaki Kasumi's left little to desire when it came to F&F. So I struggle to see the point; makes more sense to let him finish rougher knives.
So something like Munetoshi x Myojin would seem more sensible.
