Heading over to his shop this weekend to get my 240 Yoshikane chip repaired. My wife is going with me and I am sure she will try to restrain me if I see something I like. I am in the market for a 210 gyuto. I am contemplating a Tanaka Damascus right now.

Who knows? A place like that. Your wife might up end walking out of there with one for herself.

Surely, it would be rude not to?

So it was a good visit, my yoshi should be repaired sometime next week, left empty handed but I did mull over a few in the production stage, but after seeing the telegraph and wrought cladded samples he had on hand I think I am making a custom order when I pick up the yoshi, they were beauties'. Sorry Eric I have no idea if I saw yours. My wife was surprised I did not come out with a new knife or one on order, but not surprised I am contemplating an order. I need to sort out which I want, as this will be my Massdrop 4 knife.

i have a sapele handle. looks nice but needs frequent oiling for some reason. thirsty wood?

Anyone have a telegraph and wrought? Just wondering how the banding looked compared to one another the ones I viewed today were stunning and banding was surprising similar. I leaning towards the wrought but was curious to see some more side by side comparisons.

Get a mesquite handle, that wood is indestructible, but make sure he makes the specs of the handle bigger and longer.

Measure your favorite handle and have him make it like that

I find he makes the handles rather thin/small overall

His production times seem to be quite good. I'd asked for an AEB-L knife the beginning of May and he said it would be about 4-6 weeks before he would be forging it. At the beginning of July, based on the fact I'd seen a bunch of Instagram posts, I asked about switching over to A2. He said that he'd already forged my blade, but graciously offered me a similar A2 blade at the AEB-L price as the makers mark wasn't where he wanted it. Got my invoice today.

The A2 is really nice. Besides the banding which is cool, it sharpens very toothy and holds that bite really well. Low reactivity and super tough.

That's what I was looking for. I'd forgotten he did A2 when I had my original discussion with him. I was deciding between the 52100 and AEB-L and had gone with AEB-L as I wanted to have some variety as I've already got 52100 on my rack

Yeah I was going to go with a a2 until he showed me some telegraph and wrought iron ones he was about to send out. After seeing them I wanted one and I felt that left out longing of massdrop4.

When y'all order from him, are you reaching out via his website's contact form or Insta?
I reached out using his website contact form about repair for my yoshi. But I work in Santa fe. So I when went by to picked up my repaired knife I placed my order. I think it took him a day or 2 to reply to my website initial inquiry.
