Wanted to do a test run with diamond microfilm before my Togashi Honyaki gets back to me in the next few weeks.

This stuff is awesome and way faster than regular sandpaper. This is a rush job on a Wakui 240 workhorse

Here’s a fast job on a Heldqvist kiri from this nights stone-run.

Very cool details in the cladding. Finished on a Aizu because I really don’t care much about a great polish, I just want a sharp knife 😂

I wanted to tweak the edge profile in the back third as the very long flat spot felt a little harsh in use.

Ground in a 45 ish degree microbevel to get the profile much closer to where I want it, but any tips for dialling in fine adjustments to make for a silky cutting motion on the board are welcome.

I’ll need to thin the back third a bit and blend in the microbevel as this is where most material was removed, and I’m in two minds about whether to try and work out the few low spots whilst I’m at it.

Scratch pattern on the bevels are from 10 mins on a SP 1K to see what we are dealing with.

@cotedupy very kindly did an awesome job thinning and raising the bevels on a Joel Black for me earlier this year whilst life was a bit busy for that sort of thing.

I only just got around to giving it a polish over the weekend, and it was so much fun!

Synth progression was SG 500 ->> Arashiyama 1k ->> SG 2k.

The core steel was looking very clean by the time I was done with the SG 2k (seriously, how am I only just discovering these stones now, they’re amazing), so I figured I’d see if I could remove the scratch pattern with an Uchi. It was laughably quick and easy work to do, which is a rare treat in a polishing project.

Anyhow, this is how it looks after finishing up on an Ohira suita and evening out the bevels with some Narutaki fingerstones.

My shaping skills at coarse grits need to improve before I will be able to really see what’s hiding in the cladding via a Nakayama Kiita etc, but I am happy with how this turned out (and even happier with how my confidence has improved a bit as I build up my skills and experience).

Giving this nice FM a little rejuvenation, still some work ahead on the steel with finger stones (I’ve tried a bunch, but I’m not satisfied yet, so if anyone has suggestions).
