Hi All,

so I'm do not know a whole lot about UHB20c steel but I have a knife in it and I know its got some carbon and the "general" properties of it that can be done on a quick google search. But... and I apologies of its a stupid question, I know it can rust and pit, but why does it not seem to patina even in the slightest??

That's odd. It is a swedish version of 1095 and very similar to white 2, so has about the same corrosion resistance meaning none. The knives I have or had in it acted accordingly. Are you sure you are correct about the steel and it is not aebl or the like or that there isn't some coating on it?

IIRC UHB20c is the steel Misono uses for its Swedish Carbon. Far from stain resistant. My guess were the blade got a fat layer of lacquer.
Lacquer will hinder any patina formation. It can be removed with a lot of acetone or nail polish remover. Use a clean part of a towel with every wipe.

Okay thanks ya'll. Okay sorry for being so vague.

The maker is Robin Dalman. Just from holding it I mean it makes me think it's maybe HSS1 that I've seen him often use when I see them on KKF. I also know that HSS1 seems to patina like SOOOO slowly if at all. But, the seller, whom I trust, said its as UHB20c but I just don't know much about it. I'm just not used to seeing carbon steel knives that like don't patina at all - like not even the slightest.

Edit- but I do recognize I'm a bit of a newbie with steel and hardly know anything and I could be totally wrong with anything I just said above.

You can just ask him about it. He might remember. He's on here and a super nice guy. Paging @RDalman.

Well that’s nice didn’t know he wa son here.

@RDalman Here are some better photos if you recall
Yea it's low alloy carbon steel so not stainless at all. What I think you might be a little mixed up about might be you're used to softclad knives? Hardened mono patinas slower in general. Looks like you have two spots of pitting on the side with the logo on. Maybe it's been rusty previously and refinished, and then maybe the blades been covered with something after. So try cleaning it with alcohol, just don’t get any on the handle.

Pardon the ignorance but what does the alcohol do? Is it just to remove whatever you think was on it? Previous owner I do not think refinished it
