Is there a way to remove this kanji?

If you have a tall-enough container, you can boil the acetone. Best done outdoors!

I’d try the strongest paint stripper you have available.

Strong alkali is another option. It does not harm steel, even with longer exposure. Wanna mask the handle off thoroughly in either instance.

For me anything that came off with acetone tended to come off quite easily. So if it doesn't come off wth just some mild scrubbing with a paper towel I guess you have ink that doesn't dissolve in acetone.

I got it through a trade and I think it came from a small boutique Japanese site…doubt they will respond but I can give it a try. Maybe I’ll ask James at KnS since he has strong connection with S Tanaka…

0000 steel wool should take care of the drag.
