Hello All,

Here's a bit of an oddity for me, a heavy workhorse that is extra thin BTE. It's really just a bit of a forging experiment that I took on while making use of one of the last pieces of O1 I have. I'm not likely to work with it again in the future as I favour other steels more. This knife is robust, heavy, meant to bulldoze its way through everything in front of it. The first 75mm or so near the heel have been relieved by forging so the mid-blade cutting characteristics should carry through to the heel in spite of the thicker spine. Despite its thickness, this blade is still (though barely) nail flexingly thin bte. Overall the profile is something like a 55mm tall version of my flat Sab.

  • Blade: 245mmx55mm O1 64-65 hrc scotchbrite belt finish
  • Neck: 13mmx15mm
  • Handle: 145mm long, 22mm x 24mm tapering to 20mm x 22mm, burned oak, oil finished and waxed
  • POB: 67mm from the handle
  • Spine: 5.8mm at the handle, 3.2mm at halfway, 1.32mm 1cm from the tip
  • Grind: flat to convex RH bias
  • Weight: 260g
  • Relieved choil and spine
  • Edge: .15mm@1mm, .29mm@2mm, .68mm@5mm, .1.37mm@10mm from the edge, measured at the midpoint,
Asking $275 U.S + shipping (~$25). As always, if this blade is purchased in conjunction with another I will happily deduct $25 off of the price of the other blade.

Thanks for taking a look!

I like that style, tip would be too thick for me though
Yeah it was also a test of a grinder fixture...I need to figure somethout of for the tips.

Wish ya made more of these, this speaks to me on a personal level 😍😍
There's a pretty good chance of more coming in the future, though perhaps not quite so thick...and in 52100, because well...

Love this size, weight, finish! 01 looks pretty similar to something like Cruforge v or 52100. What is it that you prefer about the other two?
Thank you!

On paper it's a lot closer to 1095 than either of those, though it feels different when you sharpen it. I much prefer 52100 because of the low alloys steels it has one of the very best hardness to toughness ratios that there is, and it's essentially the same price. It outcuts the rest of the low alloy steels by a decent margin and it's fairly easy to finish, even at high hardness. This O1 was forged from bar stock I picked up on a clearance sale for really cheap a few years ago, which is the only reason I used it. If you buy it in the form of premade bars it's 2x the price of 52100 and the same price as A2, which is all around a better steel anyways.

I can't comment of CFV, I've never used it, but it looks close to 52100 in terms of performance.
