Hello, another castaway washing up on your shores. Please tell me what unobtainable stratospherically priced knives I need to be one of the cool kids.
Et-tu???But, I guess if you really want to be with the real cool kids, then you need a cleaver.

Have you heard of Cutco?Hello, another castaway washing up on your shores. Please tell me what unobtainable stratospherically priced knives I need to be one of the cool kids.

So it goes.Does this mean Kilgore Trout will wash up here too? Oh the humanity.......
Side topic: is there a subforum appropriate for soliciting a knife repair job? My yanagiba came with a compound warp that I didn't notice until being frustrated at deburring for months, so I flattened it myself, which heavily eroded the urasaki. The steel is too hard to make progress with sandpaper, and I don't have access to a large grinding wheel or the confidence to apply one to this knife.
I'd recommend in no particular order: #1 JKI, DC Cutlery, Strata or Bernal Cutlery.Side topic: is there a subforum appropriate for soliciting a knife repair job? Hey ericfgNot a refugee but I was a big fan of my daily /r/chefsknives scroll. Miss it (and other subR's)
I checked recently, JKI weren't taking repair jobs. I'll look into the other though, thanks!I'd recommend in no particular order: #1 JKI, DC Cutlery, Strata or Bernal Cutlery.
Thanks! Posting photos was definitely on the agenda. Here:

You'll get discussion in either; just posting photos with a straight edge/on a flat surface showing the complex warp and the current state of the hira, kireha, and ura is going to get you relatively quick feedback.
So... Did you just flatten the urasaki until it was flat all the way around or did you bend / tap the knife straight first? If you're looking for a full ura regrind I think I recall seeing Bernal do something like that before but its not a procedure that is typically recommended or easily done.Side topic: is there a subforum appropriate for soliciting a knife repair job? Bent first. There were like three different deviations, two high areas and three low areas. Something like that. I bent it as straight as I could then ground it until it was actually flat. It's about 2/3 ura in the high spots now.So... Did you just flatten the urasaki until it was flat all the way around or did you bend / tap the knife straight first? Korin is another option. I think they can even regrind Ura's, depending on how bad it is.I checked recently, JKI weren't taking repair jobs. I'll look into the other though, thanks!
