This one is for the TF cultists and enthusiasts … or anyone who loves high quality, low maintenance W1 knives (with character)! Comes with a unique and tasteful handle that is a riff in the standard wa handle but with much more elegance and interest (in my opinion).
Purchased this easily (it was one of my first Japanese knives) but I have found that I reach for larger knives most of the time. One of the better Maboroshis that I have seen (having inspected a few before purchasing) including a nice thin grind plus comfortably (slightly) chamfered finger notch and spine. I am sure there is some ‘wabi sabi’ that my amateur eyes do not detect. To me, it’s excellent and does require thinning to perform well, unlike some TF grinds. It glides through anything that I have tested it on, and does not wedge at all. One wonky feature was a crooked handle installation with the original ho wood handle, but it has since been rehandled with a custom handle - beautiful crape myrtle burl with some of the most stunning marble horn that I’ve ever seen at the ferrule and end cap.
Used two or three times and stropped once.
Edge Length: 165mm
Heel Height: 50mm
Spine at Heel: 3.1mm
spine at Mid: 1.8mm
My investment so far including knife and handle but not including shipping, rehandling costs etc. are $360 (so I am a bit deeper than that). Asking for$310USD $299USD PayPal GS (or discount for using WISE if you’re comfortable with that) plus shipping. Shipping to the USA will be around 20-30USD. Please message me and we can work something out!
