I’ll start.

Markin, Sicard, Porto, and a Wild Card. I want to get/on list for two of four.

Do I need to say what I’m ordering?

I think what BIll meant to say was:

I want to get on list for at least two of four... as long as they contain four sides that are joined straight lines. And each junction point is a 90° Angle of steel.

Goal 1:
Actually finish all my existing products and sort through my stupid piles of stupid rocks

@ethompson , I don't think its healthy to curse your beloved children like this in public when you secretly swaddle and rock them to sleep every night in your arms like newborn infants!

Hoping to score a Sky Eilers in 2023. Other than that my slot for a Neil Ayling should come up, and possibly but probably not my slot with Frederick Spare. Oh and my slot with Alex Horn should hit next summer.

I think that’s about it; I’m sure I’ll impulse buy a few others though.

Two years into collecting high end knives I have all the Japanese knives I initially lusted after and all the vintage knives I want except one that continually eludes me. I think it’s time to move on to customs. Top of list is Shi.Han. Next is probably Kamon. Will probably end up with a couple more jnats before the end of 2023 also

Something I've been pondering too Bill.

Is this the year I take another step up the price ladder?

One "problem" I have, is that I don't mind the mid-range knives. I do not like Damascus or high polish. I'm not overly particular about F&F as long as the blade grind is good. I'm starting to play with handle making so that lowers the desire for fancy offerings. I like to sharpen and this rung on the ladder makes me less nervous of diving in and scratching things up. And mid-range means I get to play around more and keep things fresher and have new experiences.

On the other hand, I've done a fair bit of playing around the past two years and have knives I really enjoy. As a result, I find myself passing by more and more things. "Will this $250 really kick my _____________ off the rack?"

With the economy, I think being able to quick-turn things for a minimal loss seems to have slowed down quite a bit so you can't just have that card in your back pocket.

So again I find myself asking myself, is this the year you take another step or two up? I don't have the disposable income to be delving too deep so it would really limit my purchasing. Is that worth it to me?

If I do decide to, the maker at the very top of my list is KKF's own @DanielC of Cauble Stone Cutlery. Gosh damn his work trips my trigger and gives me tingles in all the right places! If I'm 100% honest with myself, I'm actually a little intimidated by it. A fear of screwing up that gorgeous polish work he does. I know I'm far from that caliber but man his knives look fantastic.

Next up is another KKF'er, Harbeer of @HSC /// Knives. Love his work and have been a fan for years. Really leans into my shared function over form sensibilities while still being sexy as hell.

Others that also interest me are Shihan, Knots Handcrafted, and Heartwood Forge.

But, I'd probably only be able to swing one or two off the list for the year.

Decisions, decisions... It's a great problem to have though!

Actually a bread knife is on mine too.

- 10.5”+ bread knife with something resembling a nice handle (Gude, Mac, who knows)
- Massdrop IV
- Maybe replace my Toyama 180 nakiri with a Toyama dama 180
- More and better single bevels. Something about that massive spine is just irresistible. Garasuki is definitely on the list, a mioroshi 210 for farmed salmon, and maybe in ‘24 would upgrade the yanagi.
- Some expensive rocks to rub expensive steel against. Need to complement my Shapton collection.
- Solution to the paring knife problem.

One other thing on my list for 2023 was to swing by Paris and do a knifemaking class with Harbeer at HSC///. Still headed to Europe next year but unfortunately Paris isn’t in the cards. My wife says it’s a good excuse to head back to Europe in 2024….

Next year I might try to get out to a US maker’s class instead, though.

I'll probably go ahead and get the Unshu Yukimitsu ai-deba I've been thinking about for a while now. Will hopefully also be able to work down my project pile a bit and sort through what I want to keep and what i will sell. I'm definitely gonna start on that sooner than 2023 though, money is nice to have during the holidays. I'd like to finally pull the trigger on a maguro-kiri, provided I can find one that piques my interest and is around 600mm long. If @MSicardCutlery gets on the single bevel train an ai-deba would be really cool to have ;)

Need to keep reaching out to various makers to see who else is willing to make cleavers. Still don't have a honyaki one yet.
