Hello all,
As part of my (slow) ongoing experimentation with high alloy san-mai, I made a bilet of stainless clad MagnaCut earlier in the week. Right from the onset this blade was challenging to make, and even the grinding was no exception. It fought me all the way (at one point developing 2 warps 6mm deep each, and in opposite directions) and while the edge is nice and straight I must confess the spine is a little crooked. On top of that I didn't quite get the edge as thin as I originally intended and it's somewhat thicker in the middle than at the heel or tip. Because of all the warping the cladding isn't quite as even as it should be either. All in all though, it was a fun project and while I've got a few things to figure out for next time, I think the end result of this little experiment more than compensates for the difficulties I encountered along the way.
Thanks for looking!
-Matt
