Today we Americans celebrate our nation's independence. We are a nation beset by troubles, but in our 246 year history, we have been beset by many troubles, and we are still here. Fireworks are fun--but they are fired today for a reason, and I hope that more of us reflect on why we are celebrating than see today as simply a day for barbecues. So to all Americans, I wish us all a happy and thoughtful Independence Day.
