I have both a 170 and a 180. The difference isn’t really noticeable in use, but if I could only have one then definitely the 180.

I mean, 180 already isn't very long... if you have a totally straight nakiri, you have more (all) flat-spot. But you can't rock at all. And if you have a nakiri with a curve, the part hitting the board becomes even smaller.

This so far has been my perfect profile nakiri:

Kono FM 195. 183 measured along the edge. Good flat at the back for push cutting, but a nice curve up to the tip so you can rock it as well.

And the extra length over a 165 is oh-so-nice.

I have a 165mm Nakiri.

Bought a 240mm soon after.

No regrets on the second one (also no regrets with the first one, since it was about $65 all in).

Another vote for shorter nakiris. I tend to rock to go through dense produce (e.g dicing a pumpkin/squash), a long blade would just get in the way. I prefer a dead straight edge 'cause I tend to draw/glide long cuts anyway. Therefore, a humble 150mm dominates my daily tasks, while I'd still reach for my 165mm beater before I even look at my gyutos/cai daos. Open to be corrected of course, but not with my own money  ... Certainly not at the asking prices of fancy 180mm nakiris nahhhh...

I find myself really like the 210mm iron clad Toyama Nakiri, not as thin as the Wat 180 but still fall through food. I think a good balance is also important in this kind of decision, even with similar wight I just fine the Toyama Nakiri much better at chopping green onion than CCK 1302, the more forward balance seems to accelerate the action and made the chopping much easier.
