Hello All,
This project has been a long time coming. Water quenching honyaki has an extremely steep learning curve and I have broken many many blanks over the last 3 years trying to succeed, but I finally managed it!
The ashi seem to have a different character to them with a water quench vs an oil quench. They have a more flame like aesthetic than a misty aesthetic which I find is typical of oil. Certainly it's a new and interesting addition to my skillset, and I have others already in the works (hopefully with more banding).
I'm listing this blade as a semi-custom, so that means its future owner gets creative freedom with the handle, and yes I can even send the blade off to @KasumiJLA to receive one of his ever popular handles.
Blade: 185mm X 47mm W2 Tool Steel (65 hrc) 1200 hand finish + uchigumori finger stones
Neck: 18mmx18mm
Handle: TBD
POB: TBD
Spine: 2.56mm at the handle, 2.04mm at halfway, .46mm 1cm from the tip
Grind: flat to convex right hand bias
Weight: 76g
Relieved choil and spine
Edge: .16mm@1mm, .3mm@2mm, .5mm@5mm, .9mm@10mm from the edge, measured at the midpoint,
Asking $385 U.S + $25 shipping. As always, if this blade is purchased in conjunction with another I will happily deduct $25 off of the price of the other blade.
Thanks for looking!
-Matt
